These programs help youth create aspirations for the future, providing opportunities for career exploration and educational enhancement.

Power Hour a comprehensive homework help and tutoring program, assisted by Iowa State University Students, POWER HOUR is designed to raise the academic proficiency of Club members ages 7-12.

Project Learn reinforces and enhances the skills and knowledge young people learn at school through "high-yield" learning activities at the Club and in the home. Based on Dr. Reginald Clark's research that shows fun, but academically beneficial activities increase academic performance, these activities include leisure reading, writing activities, homework help and games like Scrabble which develops young people's cognitive skills. Project Learn emphasizes collaborations between Club staff, parents, and school personnel. Formally evaluated by Columbia University, Project Learn has been proven to boost the academic performance of Club members.

We believe learning can be fun! It is important to Boys & Girls Club of Story County to incorporate learning into everyday activities that are fun and exciting for our Club members. Our Club offers educational support and enrichment opportunities, we promote academic success and encourage members to think beyond their circumstances.

Members have the opportunity to engage in:

• Homework Help - Members receive assistance from tutors.
• Read With Me - Members can read aloud  to a group or read with a tutor.
• Healthy Habits - Members receive guidence about health foods and physical activities. Our local Target is a large supporter of this program and has completed trainings with our members.

These programs are educationally based but are presented in a way that is fun and enjoyable for all Club members. Here at the Club, we strive to achieve one goal, to make our Club "The Positive Place for Kids!"
