Core Program Support

Boys & Girls Club of Story County will continue to guide the intellectual, emotional and social development of our youth. Your gift can help us reach our targeted efforts in these five core program areas: character and leadership, education and career, health and life skills, the arts, and sports, fitness and recreation.

Boys & Girls Club of Story County Core Programs – A Brief Overview

Our five core programs work in concert to improve the cognitive, social, emotional, physical, and moral development of our youth. While each program focuses on specific skills, it is the wide range of development opportunities and experiences, with guidance from caring adults, in a safe and challenging environment that makes our Club experience unique and effective.

Character and Leadership

Our leadership programs allow members to practice and improve their team work and decision-making skills. Our Torch Club (for youth ages 11 to 13) and Keystone Club (for teens ages 14 to 18) are specialized programs developed by Clubs to support specific membership needs, including providing employment for members.

Education and Career

Our belief is all youth will succeed academically and grow to be healthy, productive adults if given sufficient support and opportunity to learn. Our Club's education activities reinforce and enhance the skills and knowledge our youth gain at school. All members have the opportunity to receive homework help from tutors every day.

Health and Life Skills

Our Club will help members develop healthy self-esteem, resilience, motivation and the ability to make good decisions.  Our Staff invite experts from our communities and utilizes national programs to teach health and money management skills to benefit our youth.

The Arts
Our Club encourages all varieties of art. Our members are able to express themselves, develop new skills and talents, and expand their individual creativity. The goal is to ensure that every member is exposed to, and has the opportunity to engage in a wide variety of arts-based activities from music and dance, to visual arts and creative writing.

Sports, Fitness & Recreation

Our Club helps members develop healthy habits, stress management, and social interactions through participation in daily activities in our gym, social recreation areas, and outdoor area. Building on a program of traditional sports activities, the Club utilizes community partnerships to teach unique activities such as, martial arts and dance, which require focus and discipline. Our youth gain skills and build confidence to take on new challenges every day.
